Where can i find the current version of FirstMagic?
A
You can download FirstMagic 1.4.0.1 here. Customers in North America can also contact Palantir Information Systems Ltd. Customers in other countries, please find your local reseller here.
Q
How do i install FirstMagic?
A
Installation is via two Batch Admin scripts. The script will install and configure two directories on the server - the EnsemblePlugin in Internet Services:Plugins, and a FirstMagic Website folder in Internet Services:WWW.

To install multiple FirstMagics, run the Website Script several times; it will generate a new website folder in WWW each time. The EnsemblePlugin is only installed once. The total installer is about 20 megabytes, about half of which is uploaded to the server on the first install. Subsequent installs is only about a megabyte each.

How do i Uninstall FirstMagic?
A
Deleting the EnsemblePlugin and the FirstMagic folder(s) in WWW will remove all traces of FirstMagic from the server.
Q
Will the installer modify my server or any resources on it?
A
No. It will only create two entirely normal FirstClass Containers and generate resources and initial content inside them. It will not reconfigure or change anything at all.
Commenting

How do i prohibit commenting on specific pages?
A
Open the Properties Form for the Document or Folder in question, and check the Read Only Checkbox.

How can i moderate Facebook Comments?
A
Activate Open Graph on Tab 2 in FM Preferences, and input your Facebook User ID or an Application ID associated with your Facebook ID in the FB fields. When you hover the mouse over comments now, you will have Moderator access to them.

Note that you can only moderate the comments on the website. The version pushed to the Sender´s Facebook Wall remains.

Q
Built-in Commenting isn´t working. Why?
A
Check the following:
  • Is your FirstMagic installation licensed? Built-in Commenting does not work when FirstMagic is running in Demo Mode.
  • Do your users have sufficient permissions set on the Comments Conference? The allowed User Group must be Moderator of this conference.
  • [If Anonymous Commenting]: Have you supplied FM Preferences, Tab 3, with Guest Account Credentials with permissions for the Comments Conference?
  • If you are running IS version 11.015 or newer, the Server´s Headermatch file is set to require Validation Keys by default. This prohibits Comments posting in FirstMagic 1.2.1 and older. If this is the case, there are two possible fixes - either update FirstMagic to 1.2.2 or disable this Key requirement in your Headermatch file.
How to disable  the Validation Key requirement:
  • Open Internet Services/Headermatch and locate this line:
  • * IF ISWEBDAVCLIENT == 0 OR METHOD == GET OR METHOD == POST SET requirevalidationkeys = 1
  • Place a grid sign [ # ] before this line, like so: #* IF WEBDAVCLIENT == [..]

Q
Built-in Commenting still  isnt´working. Why?
A
Check that your IS version is not 11.030. There is a bug in it that prohibits Commenting on pages that does not already have comments on them. If you have 11.030, downgrade to any earlier or update to any newer version.
Contact Form
Q
The Contact form isn´t working. Why?
A
Check the following:
  • Have you setup a Recipient Conference with a working email address, and are All Users allowed to post to it?
  • Is the Recipient Conference´s email address registered in FM Preferences, Tab 2?
  • Have you supplied FM Preferences, Tab 3, with Guest Account Credentials that is allowed to send e-mail to the Recipient Conference?
  • If you are running IS version 11.015 or newer, the Server´s Headermatch file is set to require Validation Keys by default: this prohibits posting in FirstMagic 1.2.1 and older. To fix this issue, just follow the instructions in green above.
Digital Signage
Q
I do not get a Clock in the Signage Header even though i have turned it on. Why?
A
Check that the License Code on Tab 1 in FM Preferences is correctly entered. The Clock is not available if FirstMagic is running in Demo Mode.

Can i have more than one DigitalSign Calendar?
A
Yes, as many as you wish, and anywhere in the Content Hierarchy you want.
Q
My new Digital Sign Calendar shows up as a normal Calendar, not as a Sign. Why?
A
Digital Signs are, by default, Location Calendars. Other types will not render Signs.
Q
How can i convert a regular Calendar to a Digital Sign?
A
Change it´s Icon ID to 24014 in the Calendar´s Properties Form. This will only work properly for Group and Location Calendars; Resource Calendars are not suited for Signs.

Publishing
Q
I have made a new Document, but no link to it shows up, and it has no page title. Why?
A
The Subject Field is empty. All titles and links is generated from the object´s Subject.
Q
How do i make the Sidebar content Context-Sensitive?
A
Any Sidebar object that share the first five letters of it´s filename with the file/foldername of the webpage you want it to appear on will be unique to that page.

On some Skins the Top Menu changes color to show you which page you are on. How do i make that work for Dropdown items too?
A
Any object that share the first five letters of it´s filename with it´s parent folder will inherit this behaviour.

Security
Q
A Guest Account is needed to enable anonymous forms. Is that a security issue?
A
A Guest Account is like any other FirstClass Account: it can only do what you allows it to. So set up the account with strict restrictions. Contact us directly if you want help, or confer with your FirstClass Reseller.

Can i change the rotation speed of the Header Slideshow?
A
Yes, from FirstMagic 1.3 onward, you can choose rotation speed in FM Preferences.
